Nuggets coach George Karl hears all the time his team doesn’t have a go-to guy. He figures it’s time to find one on his roster.

“I think if you consistently win with the type of team we have now, someone’s going to become a star,” Karl said. “Someone will elevate into that area of All-Star or elevate into that area of special player.”

The Nuggets on Friday lost 93-89 to the Los Angeles Lakers, the team with the ultimate go-to guy—Kobe Bryant.

It used to be easy for Karl to know who the go-to guy was. He had star forward Carmelo Anthony from when he arrived in Denver in January 2005 until when Anthony was traded last February.

“For seven years, I had Melo,” Karl said.

The Los Angeles Lakers opened a season-high six-game trip Friday night with a rare win in Denver, where the Nuggets were bleary-eyed and, in Danilo Gallinari’s case, blurry-eyed. Lakers coach Mike Brown was simply red-faced after a non-call in the waning seconds gave Denver one last shot at the victory.

Nuggets C Mozgov leaves game with left leg injury (AP)

Denver Nuggets center Timofey Mozgov left Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers with a left leg injury. Mozgov was injured after making a layup with 10:01 left in the third quarter. After he scored, Mozgov landed on his left leg and then fell to the floor in pain. He went straight to the locker room with the help of teammates Kenneth Faried and Chris Andersen.
