Tim Miles Earns MWC Coach of the Year Honors

In the wake of Colorado State forward Andy Ogide earning all-MWC honors on Monday, Rams head coach Tim Miles has been named the Mountain West Conference’s Coach of the Year by CollegeInsider.com .

Miles, now in his third year as the head coach at CSU, has led the Rams to a 16-14 record overall with a 7-9 mark in conference play, good for fifth in the league.

The Rams have had an incredible turnaround from last season, winning nearly twice as many games—both overall and in MWC play—from the 2009-2010 season, even after the graduation of star shooting guard Marcus Walker and without point guard Jesse Carr, who after having an outstanding campaign as a true freshman, missed this season with a groin injury.

Miles has had a keen eye for recruiting below-the-radar prospects and turning them into rising stars, including Ogide and Travis Busch, who both transferred from other D-I programs, Travis Franklin, and young players like Carr, Dorian Green, Greg Smith, and Pierce Hornung.

Colorado State is eligible for the CollegeInsider.com Tournament thanks to their win over Utah. The Rams play San Diego State in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference Championships on Thursday in Las Vegas.

Other MWC honors included New Mexico’s Darington Hobson, who was named Player of the Year and Jimmer Fredette of BYU, named conference MVP.
