No. 19 Wisconsin pounds Spartans 82-56 (AP)

Wisconsin's Tim Jarmusz (24) reacts after being hit in the face by Michigan State 's Durrell Summers (15) during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, in Madison, Wis. Summers was charged with a technical foul. Wisconsin won 82-56.

Considering some of the shots Wisconsin was hitting, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo joked it must have been divine intervention from the cheesehead gods. But, he added Jordan Taylor of the Badgers was simply dominating. Taylor scored 30 points to lead No. 19 Wisconsin in an 82-56 pounding of Michigan State on Sunday, the Spartans’ fifth loss in six games.

Purdue pounds Michigan in Big Ten opener (AP)

Purdue guard E'Twaun Moore (33) blocks a shot attempt from Michigan forward Jordan Morgan (52) in the first half of an NCAA college basketball game, Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. Purdue won 80-57.

For 10 minutes Tuesday, Purdue didn’t look anything like the No. 12 team in the country. It turned out to be a fluke. After jumping out to an early 19-3 lead over Michigan, the Boilermakers struggled, allowing the Wolverines to charge back for a 26-25 advantage late in the first half. Purdue, though, scored the final five points of the first half and then outscored Michigan by 19 points in the…

Morning Walkthrough: Paul Pierce lost five pounds this summer

The Morning Walkthrough is a set of links to Boston Celtics articles throughout the internet, designed to get your day started the right way.Slim.Mark Murphy, Boston Herald – “Paul Pierce started FitClub34 as a public service to encourage children to exercise. Perhaps he didn’t know it at the time, but it became a personal initiative as well. An athlete who sets himself up as a spokesman for fitness can’t then go to seed. It wouldn’t have been kosher for the Celtics [team stats] captain, in the wake of last June’s Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, to go home, get married, sign a new deal and spend the next two months at a luau. Instead, Pierce went home, got married, signed and lost five pounds. ‘I’ve got to lead by example, right? I can’t tell people to eat right and exercise and train and I don’t do it,’ he said. ‘It’s all a part of me and what I do in the lifestyle.’ … ‘I’d say I’m a week away, truthfully,’ he said. &#…

Syracuse Pounds Providence 85-68: Video Smorgasbord

SYRACUSE, NYA second half explosion pushed Syracuse past Providence and with the win, the Orange is off to its best start in school with a 22-1 record. After the game the players were once again in a jovial mood.

During the game, Scoop Jardine’s twitter account posted a game update. Jardine explained how he could have possibly tweeted during the game as well as who would replace Wes Johnson on his weekly video segment if Johnson was ever too hurt to film the segment. Jardine also talked about the cut-out head he’s been awaiting.

After I stopped recording, Jardine commented he hopes when his head arrives in the stands it will bring him a career high in points like tonight when Kris Joseph had his giant head in the crowd for the first time and scored a career best 23.

There was one scary moment Tuesday evening. Jardine tried to connect with Wes Johnson on an alley-oop, but his defender under-cut Johnson. He flipped in the air in a similar manner as Kristof Ongenaet did last year for the Orange. Johnson was down for about a minute, but eventually walked off. He played a few more minutes, but eventually sat out the rest of the game.

Johnson explains why (video is black because I couldn’t get a good headshot of Johnson and opted to get the best audio possible):

After the game, coach Jim Boeheim wanted to hammer home one point about the Orange’s previous game against DePaul:

Check back later for a feature about Kris Joseph who is emerging as one of the nation’s best sixth men.
