Albany coach Will Brown says there’s an easy way to determine who’ll win his team’s First Four game with Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday night. The mother and father of forwards Sam and Michael Rowley flew out of Sydney before they knew their final destination. ”With my parents, it’s just any excuse to get out of work,” joked Sam Rowley, who averages 11.5 points a game, second on the team to Adelaide native Peter Hooley’s 15.7. ”They’ll try to slow the game down and grind it out as we’re going to try to speed it up.” The Mount has attempted 797 3-pointers in 32 games;

Gonzaga overpowers Saint Mary’s 70-54 in WCC semis (Yahoo Sports)

David Stockton had 21 points, Sam Dower Jr. added 12 points and nine rebounds, and Gonzaga advanced to the West Coast Conference championship game for the 17th straight year with a 70-54 win over Saint Mary’s Monday night. Gonzaga (27-6) crushed Saint Mary’s in two meetings during the regular season behind its defense and did it again in the WCC semifinals, holding the Gaels (22-11) to 37 percent shooting. Stockton also had six rebounds and four assists for Gonzaga, which will play for its fourth WCC tournament title in five years. Brad Waldow had 14 points and Stephen Holt 13 and for Saint Mary’s. Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s have been familiar foes in the WCC tournament, meeting for the sixth straight season.

While he was growing up in Poland, 7-foot-1 Przemek Karnowski played in youth basketball games where he blocked 10 shots. So it was no big deal that he blocked seven shots in leading No. 24 Gonzaga to a 73-51 victory over archrival Saint Mary’s on Thursday night. ”Obviously it does not compare,” said the sophomore center who led the Zags with 15 points and nine rebounds. ”I was happy I was able to give my effort for the team.” With one starter out of the lineup and two hobbled with injuries, the Zags have been depending on players like Karnowski, Drew Barham and Angel Nunez to step up.
