Blake Griffin on LeBron James: “He was Osama bin Laden”

Blake Griffin praised LeBron James for returning home
During an interview with GQ magazine, Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin talked about LeBron James’ return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Griffin said James returning to Cleveland was great, but also praised him for the decision to return despite his family receiving death threats and hate from around the league. In one part, Griffin compared LeBron to Osama bin Laden in terms of the vitriol he received after leaving Cleveland for the Miami Heat.
Via GQ:
As a fan, what did you think of LeBron returning to Cleveland?
I think it’s great. The way he did it—the way he released that statement or article, whatever you want to call it—I think it shows a lot about him. And to be honest, it shows that he’s a much bigger person than I think people gave him credit for. Because that’s a tough thing to forgive. I mean, this man’s family’s lives were threatened. People constantly yelling at him. And not just Cleveland fans—from all over the

LeBron James fan has his Cavaliers arena ban lifted

Cleveland Cavaliers Lift Ban on Court-Storming LeBron James Fan

The Cleveland Cavaliers are learning to forgive.

Months after extending an olive branch and welcoming LeBron James back into the fold, Cavaliers upper management is rescinding the ban levied on court-rusher/LeBron superfan James Blair.

You may remember Blair from his impromptu meet-and-greet with James at Quicken Loans Arena in 2013. Clad in a T-shirt marked with “We Miss You” and “2014 Come Back,” he invaded the court with ease and managed to high-five his hero before security could haul him out of the building.

It’s been nearly a year-and-a-half since Blair’s storming and subsequent one-year ban from attending Cavaliers home games, and Fear the Sword’s Chris Manning (h/t Mike Prada of SB Nation) reports that the team is ready to officially bury the hatchet.

The Cavaliers communication staff confirmed to Manning that the team considers Blair’s sentence served and will allow him back into the arena at the start of the 2014-15 season.

So, Cleveland will be welcoming back two heroes this fall—or one hero and a deeply obsessed but ultimately harmless (hopefully) individual who showed us all just how easy it is to get within striking distance of the world’s greatest basketball player.

In any case, Cleveland stuck to its initial punishment, which was lenient by any standards. Enjoy the games, Blair. You got exactly what you wanted.
