Ainge, Rivers eager for end of NBA lockout
Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers and general manager Danny Ainge have been playing a lot of golf lately. They may have extra time to play more.
With the NBA lockout in progress, the scheduled opening of training camp next week remains in jeopardy.
Rivers and Ainge fended off questions Monday about the labor problems between the league and its players. Last Tuesday, a meeting between the executive committee of the NBA Players Association and the owners’ labor relations committee produced no progress.
Ainge was the coach of the Phoenix Suns during the last NBA lockout and has sour memories.
The Celtics have just seven signed players and cannot add to their roster while the lockout continues. They’re also working with a revamped coaching staff.

New Jersey Nets guard Jordan Farmar says he is looking forward to a “great life experience” when he plays for Israeli champion Maccabi Tel Aviv during the NBA lockout. Farmar landed in Israel Thursday and was greeted at the airport by dozens of fans singing and banging drums in celebration.

Nets guard Jordan Farmar eager to play in Israel
New Jersey Nets guard Jordan Farmar says he is looking forward to a ”great life experience” when he plays for Israeli champion Maccabi Tel Aviv during the NBA lockout.
Farmar landed in Israel Thursday and was greeted at the airport by dozens of fans singing and banging drums in celebration. Farmer said he was excited to play ”for an organization that is committed to winning.”
Maccabi Tel Aviv was the runner-up in the Euroleague last season.
Farmar, who is Jewish, won two NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers before moving to the Nets in 2010.
The 6-foot-2-inch guard will play for Tel Aviv as long as the NBA lockout lasts. The 24-year-old Farmar is one of the highest-profile players to play for Maccabi.

Gores eager to work with Dumars as Pistons rebuild
The new owner of the Detroit Pistons says Joe Dumars will remain the organization’s point man on basketball matters as the team tries to rebuild after missing the playoffs two straight seasons.
Owner Tom Gores was introduced at The Palace on Thursday, a day after completing an agreement to purchase the Pistons from Karen Davidson. Gores says he’ll ”lean on” Dumars, the team president who has been part of all three of Detroit’s NBA titles as either a player or an executive.
Gores also says he expects a decision on coach John Kuester’s future soon.
Gores takes over following a drawn-out sale by Davidson that stretched back before the season. The team announced in April that Gores had agreed to buy the Pistons.
