Rajon Rondo’s Top 5 Moments of the 2010-2011 Boston Celtics Season

With the lockout still going strong, there has been a lot of debate about what the future holds for Rajon Rondo and whether or not he can lead the Boston Celtics one day. Although the season ended only a few months ago, it’s time for everyone in the league, and more importantly, Celtics Fans, to relive some of Rondo’s best games during the 2010-2011 season. He had a tremendous season and watching these clips reminds me of the great presence Rondo has on the court and the bright future he still has ahead of him.

After watching the Boston Celtics lose to the Miami Heat in the playoffs, a lot of fans were disappointed with how the season turned out. These great Rondo moments show that the hunt for Banner No. 18 will continue next year and he will be the player that will one day get us there. Even though the lockout is threatening to stop fans from enjoying this great sport, take the time to remember how amazing some parts of last season truly were.

(I included a bonus moment/slide from last season. It’s a true classic Rondo moment.)

Steve Nash, Grant Hill and the Amar’e Stoudemire-less Phoenix Suns failed to recreate most of the fire and excitement they ignited with 2010′s deep playoff run last season (they finished 40-42 and missed the postseason), but the team never failed to to capture fans’ imaginations with some amazing plays over the course of the regular season.

Back Into The League
Von Wafer joined the Celtics after a brief hiatus away from the NBA playing basketball overseas. Wafer was one of those guys that was more known for his immaturity and selfishness on the court, rather than the ability to help his team win basketball games. Danny Ainge took a gamble on Wafer and saw the upside in his game.
Early on in the season there was a bit of conflict surrounding Wafer and some of the things he was quoted saying. At one point early in the season Wafer was quoted stating that he would be the team water boy if that’s what the team needed. A few months later he changed his opinon and decided that he didn&#…

Joining the Enemy
What better way is there to get back at the team that let you go than to sign with one of their biggest rivals? That is exactly what Carlos Arroyo did following being released by the Miami Heat after the Heat decided to go down a different path at the point guard position by signing Mike Bibby.
With Rajon Rondo and Delonte West dealing with injuries, Danny Ainge brought Carlos Arroyo on board as a premium insurance plan for the point guard position. Arroyo played his first game with the Celtics on March 9th against the Los Angeles Clippers. He played 15 minutes in that game.

Rough Start
After starting the season off recovering from ankle surgery, many didn’t expect a whole lot from the Celtics 2010 1st round pick. We all had heard the scouting reports about Bradley’s defense and how he may be able to assume the role as a defensive specialist on the team. Unfortunately, being a rookie on a veteran team in Doc Rivers system, Bradley didn’t have many opportunities to prove himself.
For the majority of the season, Bradley saw himself  entering the game in the midst of the Celtics victory cigar, Gino,  playing on the TD Garden jumbotron.

College Basketball: 20 Worst Jerseys of 2010-2011

It was a great year in college basketball this year; great games, great teams, a true year to remember.

But like every year in college basketball, there were some teams that simply didn’t look that great.

There is a long history of ugly basketball jerseys. Wyoming seems to be a perennial player on the ugly uniform list.

There were a lot more good looking jerseys than there were not good looking this season, so finding the top 25 was tough.

I’m sure that there will be a lot of people the disagree with some of the slides on this list, so if you do just leave a comment and tell me who you think that it is.

This list is the 25 ugliest jerseys of the year.

Derrick Rose named 2010-2011 MVP

Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose smiles as he walks off the floor during a timeout in the third quarter of game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Indiana Pacers at the United Center on April 26, 2011 in Chicago. The Bulls won 116-89, winning the series 4-1. UPI/Brian Kersey

Per NBA.com…
Rose totaled 1,182 points including 113 first-place votes, from a panel of 120 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada as well as an NBA MVP fan vote.
Rounding out the top five in voting are Orlando’s Dwight Howard (643 points, three first place), Miami’s LeBron James (522, four first-place votes), the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant (428, one first-place vote) and Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant (190).
As I discussed back in early March, I agree with the selection of Rose since he led his team to the league’s best record after losing his team’s second and third best players for big chunks of the season…

Derrick Rose wins 2010-2011 MVP

According to sources at ESPN Chicago, Derrick Rose has won the 2010-2011 MVP award, becoming the 55th winner of the award. Rose was the clear favorite to win after leading the Chicago Bulls to a league best 62-20 record after going 41-41 last year.
Rose averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1 steal.
Rose joins Bob Cousy (’57) and Steve Nash (’05 & ’06) as the only point guards to ever win the MVP award.
Congrats to D-Rose, but I wouldn’t be celebrating too hard Derrick , you don’t want to pull a Steve Nash and never make it to an NBA Finals. I’d concentrate on one thing this next week: get that bum Carlos Boozer into the flow because he is so floppy.
