Jazz Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Less than a week after watching Carlos Boozer sign as a free agent with Chicago, the Jazz moved boldly to acquire Boozer’s replacement—Minnesota big man Al Jefferson.

Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor was able to turn Boozer’s deal with the Bulls into a sign-and-trade, with Utah obtaining a $14 million trade exception. The vast majority of trade exceptions go unused, but the Jazz produced a deal with theirs in a matter of days.

With Jefferson set to make $42 million the next three seasons, the Timberwolves were eager to shed such a long-term commitment but also wanted to take back as little salary as possible in a potential deal.

The Jazz were able to make just such a trade happen with the Boozer trade exception.
