Even The Worst Teams Have Reason For Optimism (SportingNews.com)
It may not often seem like it, but a team's fortunes can turn around almost instantly in the NBA.
76ers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Sixers president Ed Stefanski saw regression from some players during last season’s 27-55 disaster under since fired coach Eddie Jordan. At the top of the list was third-year forward Thaddeus Young, which was surprising because Young had such a terrific second season after a productive rookie campaign.
“You can’t tell me that Thaddeus Young isn’t a good basketball player,” Stefanski said. “He played great in his second year, and you could say he was the best player in the two playoff series (during Young’s first two seasons). To go to where he was last year doesn’t make any sense at all.”
Young doesn’t understand how he went from averaging 20 points per game in March 2009 to such a disappointing season considering how hard he works and how coachable he is.

76ers sign free agent Battie (AP)
The Philadelphia 76ers have signed free-agent center Tony Battie. Team president Ed Stafanski said Wednesday that the 76ers want Battie to provide frontcourt depth and a "veteran presence" for younger players. Terms of his contract were not disclosed. The 6-foot-11 Battie has averaged 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds over 12 NBA seasons.
Wide-open US training camp begins under Coach K (AP)
Mike Krzyzewski was already down two players even before he ran his first practice. There's still plenty more he needs to evaluate. The Americans opened training camp Tuesday, giving the Hall of Fame coach and his staff their first chance to look at the 20 players competing for spots in the world championships.
