Timberwolves Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Timberwolves Nation—yes, there really, finally is such a thing—has been clamoring for a change at center.

They just might now get it.

Fans, growing impatient with starter Darko Milicic, coupled with their growing infatuation with backup Nikola Pekovic, reached a fever pitch Friday, when Milicic started and played just eight minutes. Pekovic stepped in and delivered the game of his young NBA career thus far with a 27-point, 11-rebound night in 34 minutes off the bench. He played all but 23 seconds after halftime and scored 21 of his 27 points in the final two quarters, when the Wolves outlasted the Nets to improve their road record to 6-4 and come once again within a game of .500 (11-12).

The Minnesota Timberwolves almost never won away from home last season. Now, they don’t seem eager to go back there. Luke Ridnour made the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 1:23 left, Nikola Pekovic scored a career-high 27 points, and the Timberwolves beat the New Jersey Nets 108-105 on Friday night to surpass last season’s road victory total.

Condensed season challenging NBA players’ bodies (AP)

After every Minnesota Timberwolves game, Anthony Tolliver can be found sitting in front of his locker with ice packs on his knees and wrist and a heavy wrap on his lower back. Tolliver took a nasty fall early in the season when he was undercut near the basket, and the NBA’s break-neck, condensed season doesn’t offer much time to recover.

Darko Milicic doesn’t need your fancy banks to keep his money in (Yahoo! Sports)

Former NBA sharpshooter Casey Jacobsen bounced around quite a bit in his journeyman career before landing a gig in Germany, and a spot on SLAM’s online roster of bloggers. And in a recent post detailing some of the quirkier habits … Continue reading →
