During his team’s recent four-game losing streak, Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins correctly assessed that his players lacked energy.

Considering 66 games being shoved into a strike-shortened season, the schedule is being played out at a dizzying pace and there isn’t much time for practice to correct mistakes. So for a while, the only way Hollins could make sure his team kept its aggressive edge was by having full-contact practices during morning shootarounds before games.

Durant scored 36 points and hit the tiebreaking 3-pointer in the final minute to lift the Thunder to a 101-94 victory against Memphis on Friday night in a rematch of their epic Western Conference semifinals series.

Gay scores 21, Grizzlies blow out Hawks 96-77 (AP)

Memphis had not won a game in Atlanta in more than six years. The Grizzlies took care of that skid in a big way. Rudy Gay scored 21 points, four other teammates were in double figures and Memphis blew out the listless Hawks 96-77 Thursday night. “It was outstanding defense from the start,” said coach Lionel Hollins, whose team came up with 13 steals.

The Memphis Grizzlies are doing all they can to bring an NBA championship to Memphis this season. Don’t expect the likes of Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol to give up. With a strong February, the Grizzlies can work themselves into a spot for the big postseason push.
