The Golden State Warriors didn’t need Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry in the fourth quarter the last time these two teams met. Instead, Brandon Rush, Ekpe Udoh, and Nate Robinson led the team in the fourth quarter to a 93-90 win over the Sacramento Kings on January 31.

Just when you think you have the Warriors figured out, they have a game like Thursday’s.

Many Warriors observers proposed lineup changes after Golden State’s reserves had led the team to a 93-90 win over the Kings on Tuesday night. Sliding high-scoring Monta Ellis into a sixth-man’s role, replaced in the starting lineup by Klay Thompson or Brandon Rush, was the most popular suggestion.

But before the somewhat radical concept could gather momentum, Ellis erupted for 33 points Thursday night, propelling the Warriors to arguably their most impressive performance of the season in a 119-101 win over the Jazz.

The win capped a 3-3 homestand, which got the Warriors (8-12) nowhere in their effort to move closer to the playoff chase in the Western Conference.
