Over the course of a year and two trades, the Bobcats turned center Emeka Okafor into payroll relief.

Last July, the Bobcats dealt Okafor and his remaining guaranteed salary (about $50 million over four seasons) to New Orleans for center Tyson Chandler (similar annual salary but two fewer seasons). Then, this month, the Bobcats dealt Chandler to the Dallas Mavericks for Erick Dampier’s unguaranteed contract, plus Matt Carroll and Eduardo Najera.

It’s inevitable the Bobcats will either waive Dampier or trade him, since his $13 million salary is unguaranteed. The Bobcats likely need to waive him to ensure they stay below the NBA’s luxury-tax threshold of about $70 million. Armed men broke into the home of Charlotte Bobcats player Stephen Jackson, holding his wife at gunpoint before locking her in a bathroom, police said. Three men broke into the home in a gated community of two dozen million-dollar homes around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Jackson was in Texas for a basketball camp and his wife was not injured, multiple media organizations reported.
