NBA Draft: Five Players the Philadelphia 76ers Should Select at No. 6
The Sixers, after an absolutely miserable 27-55 season, finally scored an important win last week: They beat the Detroit Pistons in a tiebreak for the No. 6 overall odds in the NBA draft lottery.
With that, they’ve guaranteed that they’ll pick no lower than ninth. The last time the Sixers had a top-9 pick? 2004, when Philly drafted Andre Iguodala, the “other” A.I. who was viewed as the franchise’s future. (Ugh.)
Now, the Sixers have a chance to re-do that whole “franchise’s future” thing. They already struck gold with rookie Jrue Holiday last season, who proved to be the season’s one redeeming value; if they could land a young prospect to pair alongside Holiday for the next 10 years, the Sixers would be on the fast track back to the playoffs. Hell, they don’t even need a franchise player—just drafting a competent starter would be more than enough.
Going into the draft, the Sixers’ two biggest needs are finding a true center as a replacement for Dalembert, who won’t be back after next season, and acquiring a shooting guard that can actually, well, shoot. (No offense, Iggy.)
