Los Angeles Lakers Current Roster Not Enough To Contend For Title
With one-third of the season in the books, one thing can be said for the 2011-12 Lakers. They will not represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals with their roster comprised as it currently is.
After getting swept out of the playoffs by the eventual NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks last spring, the Lakers failed to upgrade their personnel in the offseason. The team traded away Lamar Odom, coming off his best season, for salary purposes to the very team that sent them home in the postseason.
Mike Brown became the head coach to lead this aging ball club, a seemingly unpopular choice. The team signed Josh McRoberts, Troy Murphy and Jason Kapono who collectively have been as ineffective as $4.7 million can buy. They did not get younger at point guard, though much of that blame could be given to David Stern for nixing a Chris Paul trade. Not only did the Lakers not get Chris Paul, but they still have Luke Walton.
