BYU-TCU: Cougars Defeat Frogs in Quick, Forgettable Game

Any fears about a BYU letdown against TCU before Saturday’s crucial road trip to UNLV quickly went out the Marriott Center’s doors Tuesday night. The only thing faster was the game itself.

The No. 12 Cougars cruised literally and figuratively past the Horned Frogs, 76-56, in a game that lasted just over an hour and a half. BYU point guard Jimmer Fredette led all scorers with 26 points (20 in the second half) on eight-of-17 shooting.

The Cougars (22-2, 7-1 MWC) also had double digit scorers in Noah Hartsock (14) and Jackson Emery (12). Hartsock added six rebounds, while Emery added six assists, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.

Neither team shot well from the field–BYU made only 38.7 percent of their field goals, while TCU only shot 34.4 percent. Only 29 fouls were called in the entire game, so neither team got to the foul line regularly.

The difference came from long distance: BYU made 11 of their 26 three-pointers (42.3 percent). TCU, meanwhile, shot three-of-16 from behind the arc.

Garlon Green and Greg Hill came off the bench to lead the Horned Frogs (10-13, 2-6 MWC) with 11 points each. The only TCU starter in double figures was Ronnie Moss, who scored 10 points.

TCU fell behind on a 10-0 BYU run to begin the game and never got closer than six points down the rest of the way. The Horned Frogs will seek to stay out of the MWC basement when they visit Air Force on Saturday.

BYU will try to win their first game against UNLV in Las Vegas since 2005 when the Cougars visit the Rebels on Saturday.
