10 Reasons Why Stephen Curry Will Be an All-Star in Three Seasons

With the All-Star game coming up, many players feel as though they’ve been under-looked or snubbed. 

Rookie Stephen Curry has been determined to become the best player that he can be for years, and this is just another reason for him to get angry. 

Here are 10 reasons why he will be in the All-Star game in three years from right now. 

10. Unselfish Personality 

This is not entirely true since Curry is selfish about winning. He loves to defer to his teammates and do whatever it takes to win games.

This is partially due to his upbringing, as well. Curry did not take part in AAU basketball and he is reaping the long-term benefits from this.

9. Court Vision

Hadarii Jones recently wrote an article about how Stephen Curry could be a better version of Steve Nash. Jones says in his article,

“Curry may not have Nash’s vision, but for a rookie point guard responsible for directing the Warriors ‘ chaotic attack, he’s doing a pretty good job and the ceiling appears quite high for the young player.”

Curry has shown flashes of court vision and this is a good sign that he’ll be a better passer in the future. If he keeps working with Chris Paul in the offseason, he’ll be averaging 10 assists per game in no time. 

8. Basketball I.Q 

Curry knows how to read and react to defenses like a veteran player. Considering that he is just a rookie, he will gain even more intelligence as the years go on.

Remember Kobe Bryant when he was a rookie? He did not seem like the type of guy studying other players’ tendencies. Curry is already doing this and it shows.

Now take a look at Bryant. As a veteran, he’s learned the art of using game tape better than any other player in the league. Just imagine what Curry will be doing when he becomes a veteran in the league.  

7. Commitment to Defense

The biggest question about Curry when he was coming out of the draft was about his ability to defend NBA point guards. Since he was drafted by the Golden State Warriors, critics thought this was the best place for him since they claimed he could not play defense.

When Curry squared off against Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns, he held him to 9-20 shooting from the floor and only six assists. While this seems like decent stats, Curry was doing the best he could to shut down the best veteran point guard in the NBA.

He’s doing the best he can on a team that is not committed to defense. Capitalizing on the fast paced system, he should be averaging two steals per game in a few years.

He is also learning about team defense since he averages 3.3 fouls per game. The potential is there for him to be a good defender; it will depend on whether the up-tempo style of play stays in San Francisco.

6. Growth

During the college basketball season while Curry was still at University of Davidson, he needed an X-ray for his sprained ankle.

This X-ray revealed that Curry is still growing. 

If Curry could be 6’4″ or 6’5″, he could play the shooting guard position without having to give up much height. This would enable him to play both guard positions effectively and giving defenses nightmares with his versatility.

5. Modest Personality

For someone who was one of the best college basketball scorers of all time, Curry is modest. He never refuses to give interviews and is open to answering any question that you ask him.

This is a sign that Curry knows he can become better. He doesn’t brag or talk trash because he knows that the best has yet to come. 

4. He’s Clutch 

Do you remember the game while Curry was in college in which he won a game with a 75-foot shot?  

However, the buzzer beater tends to get over-hyped while Curry can hit free throws in the clutch as well. Both are ways of scoring in the last minutes of a game, and Curry can kill you either way. 

3. Teammates’ Potent ial 

If you take a look at the Warriors roster, you’ll see many young guys with loads of potential. Anthony Randolph has had a rough season, but we all know that there are not many players with his combination of size and skills in the league. Monta Ellis could have been an All-Star this year and Anthony Morrow’s shooting could make him a very nice role player. 

The importance of Curry having a good team around him has to do with politics. Those who get into the All-Star game simply must be on a good team.

2. The “Underdog” effect

There has not been one moment in Curry’s life where he was not an underdog. In high school, he was under recruited. In college, he was questioned by NBA scouts about his ability to play the point guard position. Even in the pros, nobody is talking about him in the “Rookie of the Year” discussions. 

Curry has been motivated by this for all of his life. It does not matter that the Western Conference is filled with young talented point guards such as Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

Curry is motivated to become an All-Star because he’s been an underdog for his entire life. 

1. Shooting

In a sense, shooting has become less and less important to NBA GMs when it comes to drafting players. Every team is looking for an athletic edge nowadays.

Curry has mastered the art of shooting unlike any other rookie to come into the league in a long time.  

Critics were questioning his shooting at the beginning of the season, but Curry has taken off with many high scoring performances. He scored 32 points against the New Jersey Nets and 27 points against the Chicago Bulls. Both games were wins and Curry proved can single-handedly win games with his shooting.

Just look at what he did against LeBron James .
